We would like to introduce to you the updated statistics of invention/utility solution patent in Vietnam Vietnam in 2022 and its changes compared to 2021 in the form of Q&A. This article provides an overview of invention and utility solution applications/patent in Vietnam. We hope this information is useful and supports you in doing successful business in Vietnam.
In 2022, a total of 8.707 invention applications were filed in Vietnam, which represents an increase of 1,97% (with 172 applications) compared to the 8.535 applications filed in 2021. This includes 7.812 foreign invention applications, accounting for 89.72% of the total number of patent applications filed in Vietnam in 2022.
A total of 3.868 patent registration applications were granted patent certificates in 2022, indicating an increase of 177 applications (approximately 4,57%%) compared to the 3691 patent registration certificates issued in 2021. Out of the total, 3.715 patent have been granted to foreigners.
In 2022, a total of 601 utility solution applications were filed in Vietnam, which represents an increase of 1% (with 6 applications) compared to the 595 applications filed in 2021. This includes 146 foreign utility solution registration applications, accounting for 24,29% of the total number of utility solution applications filed directly in Vietnam in 2022.
A total of 243 utility solution applications were granted utility solution patents in 2022, indicating a decrease of 7 patents (approximately 2,8%) compared to the 250 utility solution patent granted in 2021. Out of the total, 67 utility solution patent have been granted to foreigners.
The top 5 countries that filed the most invention/utility solution applications in Vietnam by country/ territory of origin in 2022 are:
(1) The United States of America with: 1.896 applications (increase of 33,22% (with 630 applications) compared to the 1266 applications filed in 2021)
(2) Japan with 1.539 applications (decrease of 5,87%, with 96 applications) compared to the 1635 applications filed in 2021)
(3) China with 1.363 applications (increase of 7,9%, with 117 applications) compared to the 1480 applications filed in 2021)
(4) Republic of Korea with 1.008 applications (decrease of 18,44%, with 228 applications) compared to the 1236 applications filed in 2021)
(5) Chinese Taipei with 332 applications (increase of 11,44%, with 38 applications) compared to the 294 applications filed in 2021)
