We would like to inform you that the Laos’ Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) issued Notification No. 973/DIP on June 26, 2023, regarding notarizing dossiers for proceeding with IP procedures at Laos DIP. According to this Notification, signed Powerof Attorney (POA), Declaration of change, and Agreement of Assignment WITHOUT NOTARIZATION are adequate for proceeding with IP protection procedures at Laos DIP.
Also, the ORIGINAL SIGNED POA, Declaration of change, and Agreement of Assignment are still required to be filed with the Laos DIP within one month from the filing date/ requesting date as normal. This Notification was taken into effect on June 26, 2023.
The following is our English translation of the said Notification from the Laos DIP for your full information:
“The Department of Intellectual Property would like to inform you that, according to the agreements on the registration of industrial property and the facilitation, improvement of the procedures for application and submitting of other documents relating to registration. The Department of Intellectual Property decided to revoke requests for certification/notarization on the original documents such as Power of Attorney, Deed of Inventorship, Assignment, Licensing, Declaration of Change of Name and/or Address, etc. The intellectual property representatives from now on will only require the original document submission and the representatives must be responsible before the law regarding the authenticity of these documents. In case of doubt, the Department of Intellectual Property will ask or verify each case according to the competence.”
