Dear Colleagues,
We are glad to inform you that the Vietnam Intellectual Property Office (“VNIPO”) has published the IP Annual Report for 2023. Accordingly, we would like to share the updated statistics of invention/utility solution applications/patents in Vietnam for 2023, as reported in the IP Annual Report 2023 for your reference.
In 2023, the VNIPO received 9,460 patent applications, an increase of 753 applications (up 8,65%) compared to 8,707 applications filed in 2022. This figure includes 8,469 applications filed by foreign applicants, representing 89,5% of the total applications for the year.
In 2023, the VNIPO received 835 utility solution applications, an increase of 234 applications (up 38,9%) compared to 601 applications in 2022. This figure includes 241 applications filed by foreign applicants, representing 28,9% of the total applications for the year 2023.
In 2023, The VNIPO granted 3,668 invention patents, which is less than 200 patents (down 5,17%) compared to the number in 2022 (3868 patents granted), and 3,353 invention patents have been granted to foreign applicants.
The VNIPO granted 468 utility solution patents in 2023, which is more than 225 patents (up 92,6%) compared to the number in 2022 (243 utility solution patents granted), and 77 utility solution patents have been granted to foreign applicants.
